CONAF Congress
The XVI National
congress of the Italian Association of Agricultural Scientists and
Foresters (CONAF) took place 28th to 30th September 2011. The congress
which attracted over 350 delegates, this year was held in Sicily
in commemoration of the 150th anniversary of the Unification of
Italy, with conference sessions in Trapani, Favignana and Marsala.
The Congress
theme addressed Quality of life, Development Cooperation and Professional
Ethics. In addition to the opening session which consisted of a
number of general presentations, the congress hosted four round
table sessions which addressed 1) Cooperation in the mediterrean
area, social integration and Market development; 2) Professional
ethics and standards; 3) Production and natural resources –
planning and management; 4) Improving quality of life in urban areas
- diversification of green spaces - new models for social and economic
development for cities. A networking gala dinner was also hosted
where special recognition was given to golden anniversary membership
and for outstanding contribution to the association. Please see

CONAF is a
confederation of local and regional organisations and represents
in the order of 22,000 individual members. It is organised by way
of regional councils and a national executive and president. The
term of office of the national executive is five years. To practise
as an agricultural scientist one must be legally registered on a
national register and meet continuous professional development requirements.
